Now that the Georgia Bulldogs have won back-to-back national championships, many are wondering if they are the new kings of college football, replacing the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Former Georgia linebacker Nolan Smith doesn’t seem to think so and thinks that anybody who wonders if Alabama is done is crazy.

“Nick Saban is one of the best coaches ever. Are you crazy? They will always be a contender; they will always be in it. I’m gonna stand up here and not say RTR, but I’m just gonna say they’re a great program. “If anything, Bama and Georgia are equally equivalent at the time. I wouldn’t even say that — they have more rings than us.”

Wow, what a strong statement coming from Smith, especially knowing the rivalry that has developed between the two programs.

Despite the fact that the Bulldogs have won back-to-back championships, Kirby Smart still has only won one game against his mentor and friend Nick Saban.

But it’s clear there is much respect between the two schools. Despite not making the college football playoffs this year, the Tide still finished the season with an 11-2 record, a win in the Sugar Bowl, and the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, just ahead of Georgia.

So Smith is not wrong when he says the programs are neck and neck right now. Alabama won its last national championship back in 2020 before Georgia went on their run.
