Two college football players for the Oregon Ducks were involved in a head-on car accident this week.

According to Ducks beat writer James Crepea of The Oregonian, freshman running back Dante Dowdell and freshman linebacker Jerry Mixon were in a car accident on Monday in downtown Eugene. They were transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said that both players are okay and were at the Ducks’ training camp practice on Wednesday.

Lanning told the media on Wednesday, “Thank God they’re both healthy. They were both in an incident there. Jerry had a little laceration they were able to stitch up. Both of those guys are going to be good.”

Crepea reports that Dowell “was driving a Dodge Challenger traveling eastbound on E. Broadway and Mixon was a passenger when they collided head-on with a BMW in the westbound left-hand turn lane that was beginning to turn south onto Patterson Street at approximately 2:41 p.m. Monday, according to Eugene police.”

The other driver — also 18 years old — reportedly “failed to yield and was cited for not having a driver’s license.”

Mixon is the cousin of NFL star running back Joe Mixon of the Cincinnati Bengals.
