On paper, it’s hard to imagine anyone doing better than Urban Meyer did as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In seven seasons, Meyer’s Buckeyes went 83-9, won five bowl games, and a national title.
However, according to ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, Meyer’s magical run in Columbus was something of a disappointment.
During an appearance on The Matt Barrie Show, the SEC personality said that Meyer “underachieved” at Ohio State and that their championship in the inaugural College Football Playoff should’ve been the beginning of bigger things for the program.
“Ryan Day, they should have had a national championship by now. I would argue going back in time, Urban Meyer underachieved with only one national championship during his tenure,” said Finebaum. “He missed out a couple of times. The year after the national championship in ’15 with Ezekiel Elliott, when they lost that game to Michigan State, they were the best team in the country that year.”
