No. 10 Penn State entered Saturday’s home game as 31-point favorites.

Instead, the Nittany Lions barely scored that many points the entire game, and needed a couple of huge plays at the end to do it, as they fended off an upset bid by Indiana.

The Hoosiers, who entered the day 2-5, scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 24. Penn State finally came back to life, with quarterback Drew Allar connecting with wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith on a 57-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes remaining.

The underdog Hoosiers had plenty of time to march downfield and tie it, but the Nittany Lions got a strip sack on quarterback Brendan Sorsby, and after a mad, playground-like scramble for the ball, the play resulted in a safety.

Penn State (7-1) ended up winning 33-24, but this will not impress any pollsters. It certainly didn’t impress any fans. And with a tough Maryland team and No. 2 Michigan looming on the schedule the next two weeks, fans are wondering what Saturday’s game said about the Nittany Lions.
