Gov. Ron DeSantis waves to the audience Credit: USA TODAY

Ron DeSantis is the governor of Florida but this weekend he’s going to be one of the biggest Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones fans in the world.

That’s because DeSantis, who is currently running to become the Republican nominee for President of the United States in the 2024 election, will attend the annual rivalry football game between the two schools.

It goes without saying that if you want to appeal to Iowans before the November 5 primary, you better show up and support their favorite college football teams.

DeSantis won’t be alone. He’ll be joined by fellow Republican nominees Donald Trump, Asa Hutchinson, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

It’s unclear if any of them will interact. Presumably, Trump will avoid the others as he avoided them at the recent Republican candidate debate.

When asked if he would be rooting for the Hawkeyes or Cyclones, DeSantis gave a very political answer.

“I’m planning on linking up with (Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds), who’s … an Iowa State grad. So you’re not going to find me saying anything negative about Iowa State. Let’s just put it that way,” he told KCCI.

The college football world had some interesting thoughts about the news that DeSantis would be at the Cy-Hawk football game.
