When the Texas A&M Aggies signed a star-studded recruiting class under head coach Jimbo Fisher last year, there was an assumption that many of those players were getting lucrative NIL deals that would pay them millions of dollars. But it doesn’t sound like that’s actually what happened.

In a comment on social media this week, wide receiver Evan Stewart – a five-star wide receiver who signed with the school in the 2022 class – revealed that he “didn’t get paid a dollar” despite the assumption that the players in that class were well compensated for their commitments.

“I saw it coming freshman year when I didn’t get paid a dollar from a&m but ‘sliced bread’ had y’all thinking we was all millionaires,” Stewart posted in a comment on Instagram, according to On3.

Stewart was a five-star prospect rated as the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 6 overall player in the 2022 high school recruiting class. Given how highly-rated he was coming out of high school, if he wasn’t earning lucrative money from NIL deals, it’s unlikely that many other members of the 2022 recruiting class were making that sort of money, either.

Maybe Stewart’s story will make others a little wary of the promises some schools make in recruiting.
