USC benefitted more than most from the influx of transfers in college football. The Trojan roster was overhauled big time by first-year head coach Lincoln Riley and they reaped the rewards. Riley grabbed talented players like Caleb Williams, Jordan Addison, and Travis Dye and the roster overhaul led to remarkable success.

USC went 11-2 with a Pac-12 Championship Game appearance. Williams messed around and won the Heisman Trophy. And the team will play in a New Year’s Six Bowl Game for just the third time since 2016. A pretty great first year for Riley, who sports another Heisman winner under his belt (3, Williams, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray).

So what will 2023 bring? If anything was made clear on Thursday it’s that USC is expecting nothing short of team-oriented goals. Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams sent a crystal clear message to anybody who was going to consider USC a possible destination.

Adam Grosbard of the OC Register tweeted, “USC QB Caleb Williams on his message to transfers: ‘If you’re not coming here to focus on our team goals, don’t come. If you want to come with a great group of guys, come on, and let’s work. If you’re not here to reach our team goal in January, then don’t come join.”

Williams is obviously among the team leaders, so his word carries a lot of weight. It will be interesting to see who eventually transfers to USC, as they’re back to being one of the most desirable destinations in college football.
