It has been reported that Cameron Ward, the quarterback for the Washington Cougars, will be leaving the team and joining the NCAA Transfer portal. This means that the Cougars will have one less quarterback going into the off-season. Ward announced his intentions on Friday.
Here’s his initial statement from his personal X account:
“First and foremost, I would like to thank my lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Without him, I would not be where I am now and for that, I am blessed. I would also like to thank my family for always showing up to each and every game, continuously supporting me!
“To Coach Dicket, my teammates, and all Coug Nation, thank you for the last two years. Thank you for supporting me day in and day out for showing me some of the best days of college football; I am forever grateful.
“After a lot of reflection, I will be evaluating entering the 2024 NFL Draft, as well as intending to enter my name into the trasnfer portal as a grad trasnfer.”

Ward began his career at Incarnate World. After a successful freshman season, Ward passed for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns against 10 interceptions as a sophomore and was later honored with the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year award.
Subsequently, he entered the transfer portal, leading to his eventual transfer to Wazzu. In his first season in Pullman, Ward had an impressive performance, completing 64.4% of his passes for 3,231 yards with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Additionally, he also rushed for five touchdowns.
This past season, Ward completed 66.7% of his passes for 3,732 yards with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for eight touchdowns.
Across his time in Pullman, Ward totaled over 6,900 passing yards and over 60 total touchdowns.
As Ward looks to play his final season of collegiate football elsewhere, Washington State will have to find a way to replace his production, whether it is by promoting in-house talent or recruiting new players.
