The Saudi-backed LIV Golf has a pretty strong relationship with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

That relationship is back on display this week as LIV returns to a Trump golf property for their next tournament. Given that LIV is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, coupled with that nation’s ties to the events of September 11th, 9/11 Families United has sent a letter to Trump with their thoughts on how this impacts them and the message it sends.

LIV will play its tournament at Trump National in Potomac Falls, Va. this week, one of three Trump properties that will host one this season.

Given that declassified U.S. intelligence documents showed evidence that at least a dozen Saudi officials provided support to the people who attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, killing nearly 3,000 people, many have questioned those who play for LIV and support their league, which has been referred to as “sports-washing” for the nation’s regime. The fact this week’s event is taking place close to the Pentagon, one of the places attacked on 9/11, it’s only heightened the concerns.

Per The Palm Beach Post, the letter was sent by 9/11 Families United National Chairwoman Terry Strada. She asks for a meeting with Trump at his Virginia club this week before the event.

“The Saudis are willing to spend billions (on LIV) to ‘sportswash’ its horrific reputation and human rights record,” Strada wrote. “According to federal court documents filed earlier this year, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has generated virtually no revenue from its sponsorship of the LIV Golf League, despite spending over $784 million to bankroll its first season alone. That of course includes paying an unknown, but likely significant, amount of money to the Trump Organization to host its events.”

Trump has reportedly not responded to the letter.
