Former United States President Donald is currently under investigation for his ties to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour in connection with his alleged mishandling of classified documents. But as of now, the relationship between Trump and the Saudi-back LIV Golf tour remains strong with Trump set to host a LIV event at one of his courses this week, and that’s led to some of Trump’s older comments to resurface.

Last summer, Donald Trump was asked about his thoughts on Saudi Arabia’s involvement in financially backing LIV Golf, and he revealed strong support for the government of Saudi Arabia.

“I’ve known these people for a long time,” Trump said of Saudi Arabia’s leaders. “They’ve been friends of mine for a long time. They’ve invested in many American companies. They own big percentages of many, many American companies and, frankly, what they’re doing for golf is so great. What they’re doing for the players is so great. The salaries are going to go way up.”

Trump’s involvement with Saudi Arabia is currently being investigated by the United States Department of Justice. While the official relationship between Trump and LIV Golf is unknown, it is clear that he has some business relationship with the league, given that his golf course hosts events for the tour.

That business relationship with LIV Golf directly links Trump to the Saudi Arabian government, given that LIV is financially funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment fund. That financial relationship with the Saudi royal family is likely why Trump’s relationship with LIV Golf is under investigation.
