The R&A, the governing body over the British Open, has made it clear that Turnberry will not be considered as a host for the tournament as long as it’s affiliated with former United States President Donald Trump. But that isn’t stopping Trump from trying to woo the tournament back to his golf course anyway.
As reported by The Times of Scotland, Donald Trump is redesigning the Ailsa links at Turnberry in hopes of convincing golf’s governing body that the golf course should be considered as a host site for the British Open once again.
Turnberry has hosted the Open four times, but not since 2009. Trump purchased the property in 2014, but after the Capitol riots on January 6th, 2021, the R&A declared that the Open Championship would not return to Turnberry in “the foreseeable future.”
Obviously, this is a pretty bold move from Trump to change the opinion of golf’s governing body after they’ve already made their choice very clear, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Could we see The Open return to Trump Turnberry? 🤔

I agree with your conclusion. It does not matter now that @TrumpTurnberry is already one of, if not the best course in the world. The R&A has made their decision clear. A renovation of two holes is not going to change anything.

Until there is better road and rail access and hotels available then, despite the quality of the course, this will remain an unfavourable Open venue.
Attendance figures are always the lowest = low revenue for the R&A

Changing their 1st name and removing Trump is the only way they’ll get back on the rota.
Can you imagine what a clown like him would do to make himself the centre of attention.

Tell Trump to save his money. It’s not going to happen whilst he’s there!

Pointless while tRump still owns it. The R&A have been pretty clear, but as usual he doesn’t want to admit it.

We’ll have to see whether or not Trump is successful in his attempts to convince the R&A to reconsider their decision and allow Turnberry to host The British Open once again.
But it’s clear he’s refusing to take “no” for an answer.
