John Daly might not have been the best ranked golfer in the world but he can sure make the case for most entertaining. The “grip it and rip it” legend is known for his long drives, his loud outfits, and his “everyman” persona that when combined with his skill, has resulted in a career that has spanned 35 years.

Daly is back at the tournament that burst him onto the scene with the general public. Daly was an alternate at the 1991 PGA Championship and scored one of the biggest upsets in sports when he won the tournament. At 56, Daly winning in 2022 would be just as big of an upset as in 1991 but he sure got out of the gates quickly taking the lead on the first hole.

Everyone knew Daly wasn’t going to keep the lead for very long. And in fact, a bogey on the eighth hole took him out of the lead, but that didn’t stop people from having a bit of fun celebrating Daly’s early lead.
