PGA commissioner Jay Monahan made a huge statement Thursday in a memo he sent out to current PGA golfers.
Monahan said that PGA golfers who stayed with the league before the merger will be compensated for their loyalty.
Here are some of the things that were highlighted in that memo.
According to Sports Illustrated, there has been considerable discussion about what the Tour might do to reward players who remained loyal to the PGA Tour and turned down significant sums offered by the LIV Golf League in the wake of the framework agreement with the PIF.
Monahan also said “should we reach a Definitive Agreement, will be financially significant in total and incremental in our planned compensation package.’’ He said more details will be forthcoming as they “determine how players from across the membership would benefit.’’
That goes against some reports that stated that the league would not be compensating those players, which is why several were fuming when the merger with LIV Golf was announced.
A lot of former and current PGA Tour golfers wanted Monahan out as commissioner. Another thing listed is a pathway for former PGA golfers who went to LIV Golf to return, which also would be huge in case this merger doesn’t go through.
The question is will all of this help Monahan keep his position as PGA commissioner?
