Despite Justin Thomas missing the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the first time since he joined the PGA Tour, Eamon Lynch of The Golf Channel still thinks Thomas should represent the United States in the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Lynch expanded upon his point, saying, “He should book his plane ticket to Rome. There is a danger when you’re not in the Playoff, out of sight, out of mind for the next three weeks. If one of the other guys in the same boat as him suddenly wins a Playoff event, then it could be problematic for him.. but I do think he’s going to be there. In match play, I don’t believe form matters as much as fire, and you just don’t leave heart and soul sitting at home when you’re trying to win a Ryder Cup on foreign soil for the first time in 30 years.”

2023 marked the first year on the PGA Tour, where Thomas failed to win a single event, but the former #1 player in the world has an exceptional track record, including two PGA Championships (2017 & 2023) and a FedEx Cup (2017). Thomas also helped the United States win the Ryder Cup in 2021.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place in Italy from September 29-October 1. The United States are reigning champions following a 19-9 win in the 2021 event.
