When Nick Faldo stepped down from the broadcast booth earlier this year, it was easy to predict that he would find something new to fill his time in retirement. What might have been harder to predict is that he would fill that space by becoming a TikTok star.
Faldo, who was once the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, has 41 professional wins to his career, including six major championships: three British Opens and three Masters. He then parlayed that into a career in the media, eventually becoming the lead golf analyst for CBS Sports until that ended in 2022.
So what has the golfing legend been up to since then? According to an interview with Golf.com’s James Colgan, he’s been building his brand on TikTok.
“If all else fails, at least there’s TikTok, where Faldo has quickly amassed 23,000 followers with a presence that dabbles in golf instruction, archival footage, and, yes, memes,” wrote Colgan.
“Yeah, I texted [Jim] Nantz the other day. There was a TikTok about how to gauge your toast,” Faldo says, in regards to Nantz’s proclivity to carry a photo of burnt toast to explain his preferred breakfast order. “So I sent it to him and said, ‘what toast are you ordering?’”
Sure enough, the Sir Nick Faldo TikTok account is churning out content and putting up some solid numbers. Who knew that a 65-year-old English golfer would be at the forefront of social media trends?
