The Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) is calling for the Department of Justice and Congress to investigate further the “disturbing facts and circumstances” surrounding LIV Golf and its ties to former president Donald Trump.
Newsweek first reported the news, and this revelation comes after new details on LIV Golf’s funding were revealed as part of the PGA‘s lawsuit against the Saudi Arabian-backed venture.
DAWN wants Trump investigated over payments he received to host LIV Golf junkets at his resorts.
Newsweek revealed that lawsuit documents revealed on January 13th that Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (POF), a sovereign wealth fund headed by the Country’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), owns 93 percent of LIV and “pays 100 percent of the costs associated with the events.”
DAWN claims this is the first time MBS’ full extent has been revealed to the public.
Trump held a number of events at his resots, including in Bedminster, New Jersey, in July 2022. DAWN wants Trump’s business deals with LIV Golf investigated, especially after announcing his intentions to run for president again in 2024.
“The revelation that a fund controlled by Crown Prince MBS actually owns almost all of LIV Golf means that MBS has been paying Donald Trump unknown millions for the past two years, via their mutual corporate covers,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, executive director of DAWN.
