Extreme weather in the Monterey area has brought the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to a premature end.
The fourth and final round was initially scheduled for Sunday but was moved back to Monday due to the dangerous winds in the area. On Sunday night, the PGA Tour announced that no final round will take place and 54-hole leader Wyndham Clark is the champion.
The PGA Tour explained the decision in a statement.
“The storm affecting the Monterey Peninsula throughout the day Sunday is forecast to continue into the early hours of Monday with very strong winds. Although conditions are forecast to improve through the morning Monday, after consultation with Monterey County emergency authorities, who have implemented a Shelter in Place order until early tomorrow morning for the greater Pebble Beach community, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of all constituents, there will be no play on Monday. Therefore, in accordance with the PGA TOUR Regulations the tournament results will be final through the conclusion of 54 holes.”

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is no stranger to being shortened due to poor weather. It happened most recently in 2009, when Dustin Johnson won. Payne Stewart’s win in 1999 was also shortened to 54 holes, as was Phil Mickelson’s the previous year. Mickelson’s 1998 win was not only shortened to 54 holes but the final round was postponed until August.
A fourth round would have been interesting, especially if it was played in challenging weather. Clark’s 54-hole lead was only one, ahead Ludvig Åberg. Eight other players, though, were within five shots of Clark.
Clark opened the tournament with a even-par round of 72 at Spyglass Hill on Thursday and was nine shots off of the first round lead. But the move to Pebble Beach did wonders for him. He carded a five-under 67 in his second round on Friday. On Saturday, Clark set a new Pebble Beach course record in his third round with a 12-under 60.
