Nashville’s Lipscomb Academy found a lot of success with former NFL player Trent Dilfer as their head coach, so much so that he’s now off to become UAB’s new head coach. Now, the prep school is thinking about replacing him with another former NFL star, Jason Witten.
According to FootballScoop, their sources say that Lipscomb officials have targeted longtime Dallas Cowboys tight end and former NFL broadcaster Jason Witten as their next head coach.

Per FootballScoop, Witten, who is from Tennessee where the academy is based, has already been visited by officials from the school to replace Dilfer. Under the former Ravens quarterback, they became a back-to-back state champion and they’d certainly love to maintain that level of success.
Witten played college football at Tennessee before embarking on a 17-year NFL career with the Cowboys and Raiders. He initially retired in 2018 and joined ESPN’s Monday Night Football booth but later returned to the football field to end his playing career.
Witten wouldn’t be taking this job without any experience. He’s been the head coach at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas for two years, leading them to a 10-0 regular season and a playoff berth this past season.
FootballScoop says that Lipscomb officials are expected to fly Witten to Nashville, Tennessee, early next week as they hope to put the hard sell on.
