The 2023 MLB season isn’t even two days old and already there has been an incident between a player and a fan.

Following the team’s 2-1 loss to the Oakland A’s on Thursday, Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon got into it with a fan. In a video that surfaced on Twitter, Rendon grabbed an A’s fan’s clothing, cursed at him and attempted to hit him. It’s unknown what the A’s fan said to Rendon to cause this type of reaction, but he certainly had some choice words for the fan in question.

“What’d you say?” Rendon can be heard saying in the video towards the fan. “You called me a *****, huh? Yeah, you did. Yeah, ************.”

According to The Athletic’s Sam Blum, the Angels are not commenting on the incident but did indicate that Rendon will be available to comment on what transpired prior to Saturday’s game against the A’s.

“We are aware of the video and we are now looking into the matter,” an MLB spokesperson told The Athletic, as told by Blum on Twitter.

Of course, there are two sides to every story and Rendon will have an opportunity to clarify his recollection of events. The A’s fan likely crossed the line, but this is the last thing that the league likely wants to see during interactions between players like Rendon and fans.
