Babe Ruth cemented himself into baseball history.

So even decades after his passing, the memorabilia his name possesses is still being auctioned off at a monumental amount.

A rare rookie card that depicts the hitting legend sold for $7.2 million. (!!!)

Robert Edward Auctions sold the Baltimore News 1914 card that was the third-highest price ever for a trading card. There reportedly are only 10 in existence and it came out 109 years ago.

“I think it’s a tremendous number,” REA President Brian Dwyer told Fanatics Collectibles, via Topps. “The third position all time, highest selling Ruth item ever. We’re pleased; we’re excited. The overall auction had record engagement. We’re waking up this morning feeling pretty good about how it all worked out.”

There was even speculation the card could have been auctioned off for around $10 million.

“We were in a position where we had been more than 10 years removed from the last time one of these sold,” Dwyer added. “That price that was realized 10 years ago was a data point, but it was not anywhere near what we knew the card was worth today. I think everybody was flying a little blind. We had some comparisons that we could make with respect to T206 Wagner pricing over the last several years. But all in all, it’s a good result.”

REA did not release the information of who ultimately purchased the card, but did say it was a private collector.

Whoever it was has a massive piece of sports history.
