Thanks largely to the influx of young talent, the Cincinnati Reds have gone from a 100-loss team in 2022 to a playoff contender in 2023. But while a lot has gone right for the Reds this season, they have struggled mightily against the Milwaukee Brewers.

That continued on Monday, as the two teams opened a three-game series at Milwaukee’s American Family Field.

Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a monstrous home run by Elly De La Cruz, but that was all the offense the Reds could muster. The Brewers tied the game in the sixth inning with a home run by Sal Frelick. With the score still tied 2-2, Milwaukee’s Blake Perkins and Jesse Winker opened the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk and single, respectively. That brought Christian Yelich to the plate.

During the game, MLB fans loved the karma that hit the Brewers, as Elly De La Cruz homered moments after Milwaukee was gloating about an earlier home run robbery on the video board. But turnabout is fair play.

Baseball fans also took notice of the Brewers continuing to domination of the Reds.

Milwaukee’s record against Cincinnati is more significant now than it’s been in the past. Since MLB no longer has Game 163 one-game playoffs, if the Brewers and Reds finish the season tied, Milwaukee would win the National League Central. That’s especially relevant since 1.5 games is all that separates the two teams.
