The Cincinnati Reds have become a true contender in the National League due to an influx of youth talent making their way up to the major league roster. Veteran first baseman Joey Votto is not one of these young players, but he played the role of a “young and hip” in his postgame interview on Monday night.

Cincinnati’s offense has largely been the biggest factor in its recent string of success. The Reds didn’t have much offense in Monday’s game, but Votto did come through with an extremely timely hit.

Votto hit his fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning, which would ultimately be the difference in a 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.

The entire Reds fanbase seems to be embracing the youth movement, and Votto is no exception. He was interviewed on the field after the game, hilariously wearing a backwards hat and untucked jersey while talking about being young and hip.

“You like my backwards hat and my untucked jersey? Elly (De La Cruz) and I do this, We’re young and hip. This is what young and hip people do. I’ve got a Fresca sitting at home at the hotel. I’m going to play some Playstation tonight until seven in the morning with him.

Votto has always been a beloved figure to Reds fans, but him embracing the young players on the team like rookie shortstop Elly De La Cruz has fans appreciating him even more.

Plenty of veterans would see it as a threat to have all of this young talent around them. But Votto seems to be enjoying baseball as much now as ever, which is truly awesome to see.
