Last year, Cincinnati Reds infielder Jonathan India emerged as an instant star for the team, earning the National League Rookie of the Year award to begin what looked like a long career with the team. But it looks like India could be leaving the Reds sooner than expected.

According to a report from Major League Baseball insider Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Cincinnati Reds are considering trading Jonathan India in return for potential young starting pitchers.

“The Reds have told other teams they are willing to trade 2021 NL ROY Jonathan India for young, controllable starting pitching, per sources. Cincinnati has a glut of young infielders (Steer, De La Cruz, McLain, Encarnacion-Strand) with more on the way (Marte, Arroyo, Collier),” Feinsand said in a tweet on Monday morning.

It’s pretty big and somewhat surprising news from the Cincinnati Reds, and the Major League Baseball world had plenty to say about it on Twitter as a result.

It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not the Reds actually do trade India before the deadline and what sort of return the team is able to get from the young star.

The move may make sense, but Reds fans will clearly miss India if it happens as he’s become a fan favorite in Cincinnati.
