Despite losing their own game on Thursday night 5-4 to the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs still clinched the National League Central title after the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the San Francisco Giants later in the night (in what was a huge game for NL Wild Card purposes as well).

Yes, the Cubs (93-53) clinched the NL Central with over two weeks to go in the season, holding a 17-game lead over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals (who now sit one game back in the NL WC race). That’s the earliest in the season a team has clinched a division title since the Angels clinched on September 10 in 2008:

So, the streets of Wrigleyville are celebrating the Cubs’ division crown, and 670 The Score’s Chris Emma got video of some fans chanting outside Wrigley Field… for Harambe.

It’s unfortunate the gorilla couldn’t be here to witness the Cubs’ achievement, although it’s very possible the Cincinnati resident was a fan of the division-rival Reds too. Either way, some Cubs fans are apparently thinking about you on this special night, Harambe.
