Major League Baseball will take the ‘Field of Dreams’ game to a new site next season, as the St. Louis Cardinals will play the San Francisco Giants at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. This decision has caused unrest on Twitter, and some MLB fans are livid.
The Field of Dreams series began two years ago when the New York Yankees played the Chicago White Sox in Iowa. The field was set up just like the field from the famed baseball movie. The idea and allure was to have it set in the same setting. To MLB’s credit, the game couldn’t have gone better the first time. The White Sox defeated the Yankees on a Tim Anderson walk-off home run after an epic game.
But the second act was indeed less memorable. The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds faced off in the same setting in Iowa last season. Chicago defeated Cincinnati 4-2, but the game didn’t have the same zeal as the previous year. MLB must have seen the feedback because they’ve acted proactively in bringing it to a brand-new site that has a history attached to it.
But don’t ask fans to consider that context because some are upset about the decision. The Field of Dreams game, they say, should take place where’s set in the movie.
