Some stolen bases are flat out, go-for-broke baserunner speed versus catcher reactions. But there are some alternatives, including what Cleveland Indians’ shortstop Francisco Lindor did Saturday night in the sixth inning of a game against the Kansas City Royals, where he just walked off second base and stole third without even a throw:

That’s a remarkable steal, and also not great defense from the Royals. But it didn’t lead to a run in the end, as Lindor wound up stranded at third. And he was later caught stealing in the eighth, and Kansas City wound up winning 1-0, so this wasn’t bad for them overall. But still, having someone steal third with this little effort doesn’t seem so good for the Royals.
