A rookie that hustles is always great to see. When Cubs’ rookie Ian Happ hit a routine grounder to second base in Wednesday’s game against the Pirates, he sprinted out of the box, despite the unlikely outcome of a single. Unfortunately, his bat turned his unlikely attempt into an impossible one, his stick lodging in his spokes and sending Happ sprawling into the dirt.
We’ll give Happ the benefit of the doubt and call this a visual representation of teammate Willson Contreras’ attempt to slide into former porn star Mia Khalifa’s DMs.
Happ has been the butt of a funny blooper before, also against the Pirates and just a week ago. Needing a triple for the cycle, he launched a fly ball to left field and sprinted hard to third base without realizing Pittsburgh left fielder Starling Marte caught the ball in the corner of Wrigley Field.
