Star first baseman and former MVP Joey Votto has spent his entire 16-year Major League Baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds and seemed to be set to retire with the team. But on Monday, Cincinnati Reds general manager Nick Krall revealed that there’s a chance the star finishes his career back in his hometown if he chooses.

On Monday morning, MLB analyst Jim Bowden of The Athletic reported that Krall and the Reds would consider trading Joey Votto to the Toronto Blue Jays if he requested to be traded there near the trade deadline this year.

“Nick Krall #Reds GM told us their plan is for Joey Votto to finish his career as a Red. However, if the Reds are out of it at the trade deadline and Votto came to them and asked if they would trade him home to Toronto #BlueJays..he said he would consider under those circumstances,” Bowden said in a tweet.

Obviously, it’s clear that the team does not necessarily want to part ways with Votto unless that’s how he wants to finish his career. However, it’s worth noting that while Votto does love his hometown of Toronto, he’s also made it clear multiple times that he has no intentions of leaving Cincinnati.

We’ll have to see what he ultimately decides.
