Sometimes, your favorite sports team’s promotion might be a hit. Other times, you’re left wondering how it could have ever been approved and if the team has a great PR department.

Those who found out what the Miami Marlins had cooked up on Friday probably fell in the category of the latter.

On Friday evening, Cubs fan and podcaster, ‘Crawly’s Cubs Kingdom,’ made a post on Twitter. The fan brought attention to the fact that the Marlins sent an e-mail to him (and presumably, many others) about an upcoming series the team has. In two weeks, Miami will host the Chicago Cubs. The Marlins and Cubs have a history, you see: In 2003, the team defeated Chicago in a dramatic 7-game series en route to their second World Series.

And, of course, you know the name “Steve Bartman” would eventually come up here. So, let’s cut to the chase: The Marlins appear to be celebrating “Bartman Appreciation Weekend” the weekend they host the Cubs from April 28-30.

“So I just got this email from the @Marlins ticket office. Apparently they are having ‘Bartman Appreciation Weekend’ when the #Cubs come to town. All Steve Bartman has ever asked is to be left alone. Whatever it takes to try to sell tickets to your ballpark. Stay classy Miami!” they tweeted about the tacky promotion.

The response from Twitter? Not so great. Fans teed off on the Marlins and their promotion and then some.
