It’s been over two months since the New York Mets agreed to make David Stearns their next president of baseball operations.
And while things may be quiet, as far as the hot stove is concerned, the Mets are already starting to plant seeds in the international free-agent market. It’s a place where teams like the Milwaukee Brewers and “process” teams have thrived over the years and should be where the Mets start to focus their attention a little bit more.
That appears to be the case, as Mike Mayer of MetsMerizedOnline reported this week that the Mets are expected to sign Vladi Miguel Guerrero during the 2024 International Free Agency period (IFA), which begins on Jan. 15.
If that last name sounds familiar, that’s because it is.
Vladi Miguel is the son of Vladimir Guerrero and the 16-year-old kid brother of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vladi Miguel is a native of the Dominican Republic. And unlike his father and brothers before him — his older brother Pablo is in the Texas Rangers farm system — he’s a left-handed hitter. As you can see in the clip above, Vladi Miguel has some pop, especially for his age, and a sweet swing.
At just 16, Vladi Miguel has a ways to go, but he’s certainly got the bloodlines that should help him reach the MLB.
