Earlier this week, Los Angeles Angels fans were celebrating the triumphant return of superstar three-time MVP Mike Trout, undoubtedly hoping he’d jumpstart their lineup and vault them into the Wild Card race. Unfortunately for them, that’s not at all what happened.

After missing nearly two months with a hand injury, the Los Angeles Angels activated Mike Trout this week ahead of a home series against the Cincinnati Reds. But his time in the lineup was extremely short-lived as just two days after the team re-activated Trout to their active roster, they announced on Thursday that he would be going back on the injured list.

To make matters worse, the Los Angeles Angels announced the news at the same time they revealed that superstar Shohei Ohtani had torn his UCL and will not pitch the for remainder of the season.

“Shohei Ohtani had imaging done and there is a tear in his UCL. Mike Trout is also going back on the IL,” Los Angeles Angels beat writer Rhett Bollinger said in a tweet early Thursday morning.

It’s absolutely horrible news for Trout and the Angels, and the Major League Baseball world had plenty to say about it on social media as a result.

It was certainly not a good day for Trout, Ohtani, or the Los Angeles Angels.
