We’re not at the All-Star break but Paul Goldschmidt is surely making a case for NL MVP. Entering Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman was batting a league high .335 and has 13 home runs.
Those stats were dramatically bumped up as Goldschmidt had himself a massive day. Don’t get me wrong, beating up on the Pirates is like beating a blind person at darts but hitting three home runs and having eight RBI in a doubleheader is impressive regardless of the opponent. This, along with a home run the night before, makes it clear Goldschmidt has some momentum.
Goldschmidt’s eight RBI is the most for a Cardinals player in a single day since Fernando Tatis hit two grand slams in the same inning in 1999.
Paul Goldschmidt has 3 HR and 8 RBI so far during the Cardinals doubleheader today.
He is the 1st Cardinals player with 8 RBI in 1 day since Fernando Tatís on April 23, 1999 — when he hit 2 grand slams in the same inning. pic.twitter.com/l7tUudzhWo

Many showed their amazement at what Goldschmidt did and reiterated that he should be an MVP candidate. Goldschmidt finished second for NL MVP in 2013 and 2015.
Maybe you shouldn't pitch to Paul Goldschmidt but also please don't stop pitching to Paul Goldschmidt pic.twitter.com/rpSvcsszgn

The Cardinals haven’t had an MVP since Albert Pujols in 2009.

Paul Goldschmidt is absolutely possessed.
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone this hot.
Dude is on another planet.

Paul Goldschmidt had the audacity to make me set down my nachos, wash my hands and let you all know he once again hit a homer.
It's 3-0 Cardinals. The first four hitters have gone HR-1B-HR-1B to start the bottom of the first.

Make that 1,250 feet of home runs by Paul Goldschmidt so far during the doubleheader against Pittsburgh. #stlcards

Paul Goldschmidt is 46 for his last 115. Unreal doesn’t explain it.

Paul Goldschmidt has finished second in MVP voting twice and third once. The way he's going, this may be the year he finally wins one. https://t.co/N497pCtL3L
