The Houston Astros didn’t just beat the New York Yankees Saturday, they dominated them.

Houston won, 5-0, to take a 3-0 lead in the ALCS. Six Astros pitchers combined to hold New York to one hit until the ninth inning, when the Yanks picked up a couple of singles before going down.

Only one MLB team in history has overcome a 3-0 deficit to win a postseason series. The Boston Red Sox trailed the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS but then won four straight to steal the series.

That was the greatest postseason collapse in Yankees history, but this 2022 ALCS may end up on the short list.

It was a totally unexpected showing from the Bronx Bombers. After losing the first two games of the series in Houston, the Yankees returned home and many expected them to come alive and make this a series. Instead, the Astros continued their postseason ownership of the Yankees. Houston knocked the Yankees out of the postseason in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Baseball fans had plenty of takes on what’s wrong with the Yankees, what’s right with the Astros, and what might happen in Game 4 Sunday.

“I knew this was going to be the end result for the Yankees when they drew the Astros in the ALCS, but to not even put up a fight is frustrating,” tweeted one fan.
