Joe Musgrove played a significant role in the San Diego Padres’ success during the 2022 MLB season. On Tuesday, the Padres starter, unfortunately, put himself in a position to miss some significant time in 2023.

According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the accomplished starter for the Padres suffered an injury to his big left toe. He fractured it in the weight room on Monday, according to the team. More info on Musgrove’s injury will soon be revealed, but in the meantime, it’s a huge loss for the foreseeable future, as the 30-year-old figured to be a big part of San Diego’s rotation again this season.

In 2022, Musgrove recorded a career-low 2.93 ERA over 181 innings pitched, which was the 9th-lowest ERA among qualified NL starting pitchers and the lowest ERA among Padres starters. Musgrove, who was voted an All-Star in 2022, made 21 quality starts in 2022. He also was the winning pitcher in two playoff series-clinching wins over the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

We’ll have to see how long Musgorve is sidelined, as the Padres have yet to release any additional details on his injury, including the severity and an eventual timeline. Regardless, any amount of time that Musgorve misses will be a huge loss for the Padres rotation.
