Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf wants MLB Commissioner Rob Mandred to give Majestic Athletic another chance.

It was reported this month that apparel manufacturer Under Armour won the contract to produce MLB’s on-field uniforms. Majestic Athletic, whose contract with MLB runs until the end of 2019, has manufacturing facilities in Easton, Pennsylvania. Wolf sent a letter to Manfred pleading to keep Majestic as the league’s main uniform producer.

“VF Majestic has produced high-quality athletic apparel for the Major League Baseball Authentic Collection for years. The Company and its employees are true baseball fans with a genuine pride in what they do,” Wolf said. “You are unlikely to find such commitment as exhibited by VF Majestic’s more than 500 dedicated employees anywhere else.”

The Philly Voice reports Wolf isn’t the only Pennsylvania official to ask Manfred to reconsider a new arrangement, as Senator Bob Casey also offered a letter to Manfred in support of Majestic.

The contract with Under Armour hasn’t been made official yet, but there’s likely little state intervention will do to block the potential contract. Majestic’s contract is going to be up after the 2019 season, and MLB wanted to partner with a new manufacturer. It’s there decision to make. It’s unfortunate it might cost the state of Pennsylvania jobs, but it’s a part of business. It remains to be seen that writing a letter will change anything.
