Tyler Glasnow missed a significant portion of the 2022 MLB season. On Monday, the Tampa Bay Rays starter, unfortunately, put himself in a position to potentially miss time again in 2023.

According to Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the accomplished starter for the Rays suffered an injury to his oblique. The injury reportedly happened during a live batting practice session at Disney.

“Tyler Glasnow, one of Rays top starters, sustained an oblique injury during a live BP session Monday at Disney. MRI on Tuesday to determine severity, but he seems certain to miss some time. Threw about 6 pitches and walked off mound with athletic trainer,” Topkin tweeted.

Glasnow and his durability have been a difficult pairing. Since the Rays acquired him in the famed Chris ARcher deal, he’s only gone over 60 innings pitched twice. Once in 2019 when he amassed 60.2 innings, and the other in 2021 when he logged 88.0 innings pitched. Keeping himself on the mound has been an unfortunate struggle. That doesn’t seem to be relenting into 2023, to his and the Rays’ dismay.

The MLB world reacted to the news.

“Top 5 arm talent in the league but just can’t stay healthy. Sounds familiar,” wrote one fan.

One fan remarked about the trade the Rays pulled for Glasnow, and how they still wound up winners anyway.

One Tampa fan pondered, “How do we have one of the worst injury luck?”

And one fan is hoping that it isn’t a worst-case scenario.
