Pitchers and catchers are reporting all across Arizona and Florida this week, and we’ve already got a contender for “most ridiculous baseball injury of the year”.

The honor goes to Kansas City Royals pitcher Brian Flynn, who broke a rib this offseason.

He broke that rib after falling through the roof of his barn.

Yep – he fell through a barn roof and broke a rib. At least his arm is alright (at least, alright enough where the rib is the major reported injury).

The 26-year old Flynn will make around the league minimum next season, and is projected to reach arbitration eligibility after this season. He had a 2.60 ERA in 55 1/3 innings for the Royals last year, striking out 44 and walking 23. He came to the Royals from the Marlins in November of 2014 for reliever Aaron Crow, who hasn’t pitched since the trade because of injury.

One has to wonder if any player will somehow manage to top this injury in the coming weeks – there’s never been a shortage for ridiculous injuries in the sport of baseball.
