Tyler Glasnow’s once-promising career has been derailed time after time by injuries, but Friday night, he showed that he’s still got electric stuff.

The Tampa Bay Rays right hander struck out two while retiring the Atlanta Braves in order in the first. Glasnow then turned it up to 11, striking out four batters in the second inning.

The “extra” strikeout in the second came because he threw a wild pitch to Marcell Ozuna, who swung wildly and missed but reached first base safely.

Four strikeouts in an inning is a somewhat rare feat, but Glasnow has now done it twice in his career. To put things in perspective, the last pitcher to strike out four in one frame was veteran reliever Chris Martin, then with the Los Angeles Dodgers in August 2022. No starter had turned the trick since New York Yankees hurler Domingo Germán in July 2021.

That made six strikeouts through two innings against the best offense in baseball, and some very good hitters: Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Sean Murphy and Eddie Rosario in addition to Ozuna.

Everyone always says that Glasnow is getting ready to put it all together and have a healthy season, and then he goes on the IL. It would be nice to see what he could do in a full season. The 29-year-old hurler has not pitched more than 14 games in a season since 2018.

Fans cranked out the jokes and memes on Twitter after Glasnow’s epic feat.
