Miguel Cabrera Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera walks to the plate to catch the ceremonial first pitch at Comerica Park on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, his final game before retirement.

Miguel Cabrera, one of the most beloved MLB players of his generation, bid his farewell to the sport Sunday.

There were just as many tears as fans might imagine.

The future Hall of Famer is calling it a career after 21 incredible seasons featuring more than 3,000 hits, 511 home runs and 12 All-Star appearances.

Beyond that, the Detroit Tigers star was one of the most popular figures in the sport, a good guy who will be sorely missed.

Cabrera’s farewell game came at Comerica Park against the Cleveland Guardians, and the Tigers and fans gave Miggy a grand finale.

Cabrera’s family threw out the first pitch to him and his children announced him before the game.

Cabrera went hitless in his final game, but walked on four pitches in his final at-bat in the seventh. In the eighth inning, the Tigers put Cabrera in for his first appearance at first base since 2021.

As fate would have it, the first batter, Steven Kwan, hit a sharp grounder that Cabrera fielded cleanly and took to the bag for the unassisted put out.

After that, the game stopped, and Cabrera hugged or shook hands with everyone in sight before he left the game.

The tears flowed in the stands and on social media as fans paid tribute to one of the all-time greats.
