The Chicago White Sox made the news many had expected official Thursday, naming Chris Getz as the team’s new senior vice president/general manager.
Within minutes, disgruntled White Sox fans turned out en masse on Twitter to share their anger.
The White Sox parted ways with executive VP Ken Williams and senior VP/GM Rick Hahn on Aug. 22. The search for a replacement ended in the team’s headquarters. Getz, 40, played two seasons with the White Sox and has spent the past five years as the team’s assistant GM/director of player development.

Getz has had tough going in his role with player development. The White Sox minor league system was rated the worst in baseball in 2021 and 2022, according to MLB.com. It improved marginally this year to 26th.
The White Sox are 53-81 this season, and fans were demanding a change, but this is not what many had in mind.
Getz might turn out to be a future MLB Executive of the Year award winner, who knows, but the early returns from White Sox fans to his promotion is brutal.
Hire the guy that has overseen one of the worst farm systems? So more of the same of what has not worked. Great I will check back in 10 to 20 years.

The guy that developed one of the worst farm systems in baseball is now managing the operations of the MLB team. This is an absolute slap in the face for the fandom after everything that has happened
