The New York Mets got an extra-inning victory in walk-off homer fashion on Monday night at Citi Field, thanks to a rocket blast off the bat of Yoenis Cespedes.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 10th, Cespedes sent an offering from Marlins pitcher Nick Wittgren over the left-center field wall. Cespedes capped off the heroic swing with a glorious bat flip, and was crowned with a bubble gum bucket in the team celebration.

It shouldn’t be surprising that the Mets are a much, much better team when Cespedes is in the lineup:
Mets with Yoenis Céspedes in lineup: 55-48
without him in lineup: 12-16

That is Cespedes’ 7th go-ahead homer of the year. His 6th game winning RBI of the year. What a tremendous hitter he is. #Mets

Yoenis Cespedes winning a game for the Mets in late August? I swear I’ve seen this movie before.

It was a huge win for the Mets, as it brings their record to 67-64, which is actually the same record the Marlins have after the loss. Both teams are very much alive in the Wild Card race, sitting 2.5 behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second NL Wild Card slot.
