Baseball now has some company in the realm of stupid player injuries. MMA fighter C.B. Dolloway will miss his scheduled fight against Francimar Barroso tonight at UFC 203 thanks to an elevator mishap.

It is not clear what exactly happened, but Dolloway was riding in an elevator Friday afternoon when the elevator malfunctioned, which resulted in the fighter injuring his back. The extent of the injury’s severity is not yet known, but at this time doctors determined it was significant enough to keep Dolloway out of Saturday night’s bout.

UFC released the following statement regarding the incident.

UFC announced that CB Dollaway has had to withdraw from his scheduled bout at UFC 203 due to an injury he suffered last night as a result of an elevator accident at a hotel in Cleveland.

UFC officials have been in communication with hotel management, and the hotel is currently evaluating and investigating the issues surrounding the incident.

It appears Friday was a bad time to be a UFC fighter in an elevator. An elevator carrying several UFC fighters including Urijah Faber, Fabricio Werdum, Yancy Medeiros, and Brad Tavares to their weigh-in also malfunctioned, although none of those fighters reported any injuries. Faber wrote on his official Instagram account that the cable holding the elevator snapped, causing it to plummet three stories.

As it stands now, UFC 203 will feature 10 bouts, headlined by Stipe Miocic vs Alistair Overeem. The card already lost out on the Ian McCall-Ray Borg bout when Borg fell ill earlier this week.
