Early in the second quarter of Wednesday night’s NBA Play-In Tournament game between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks, disaster appeared to have struck for Chicago.

As center Andre Drummond and guard Alex Caruso were rushing back up the court in transition, the pair collided, with Caruso seemingly taking the brunt of the hit.

The 2023 All-Defensive First Teamer was slow to get up as Drummond appeared to step on his foot. Caruso left the game and went to the locker room, but was able to return to the game shortly later, though he seemed uncomfortable.

In addition to his reputation as one of the league’s toughest defenders, Caruso has evolved into a solid offensive option for the Bulls. An injury would have almost certainly been the final nail in the coffin for their season.

Social media had a lot to say about the near miss.

ESPN’s Sarah Spain pointed out that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened to the Bulls, saying, “Bulls gotta stop dunking at the same time, grabbing boards at the same time, colliding for no reason… I love Drummond’s energy but that was all on him. Will be a disaster if Caruso is out.”

Another fan pointed out, “Andre Drummond could’ve ran anywhere on that spacious court and he ran directly on top of Alex Caruso”

Another fan learned a tough lesson, saying, “See what happens when I become positive? The basketball Gods heard me and made Andre Drummond truck Alex Caruso over.”

Another fan posed the question on everyone’s mind, “How did Drummond not see Alex Caruso?”
