One of the NBA’s top remaining free agents has decided to join the Phoenix Suns.
34-year-old guard Eric Gordon, the 2017 NBA Sixth Man of The Year, was already with a legitimate Western Conference title contender at the start of the offseason, but the Los Angeles Clippers waived the veteran on June 28, instead of guaranteeing his contract next season. As per The Athletic, Gordon, who would have been owed $20.9 million for 2023-24, has elected to sign a multi-year deal with the Suns. And while no details about the projected contractual figures have been made readily available, it’s more than likely that Gordon took less money to sign with the finals-or-bust Suns.
Surprise, surprise.
As per The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, the 2017 NBA Sixth Man of the Year had recently narrowed his choices down to Phoenix, Golden State and even seemingly considered a reunion in Houston. Instead, Gordon will join a super team in Phoenix that includes the likes of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal and Deandre Ayton.

This past season, Gordon averaged 12.4 points, 2.7 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game, and was a key part of a Los Angeles Clippers team that was ousted in the first round of the 2022-23 NBA Playoffs by his new team. Gordon played in 69 games (58) starts between his time with the Clippers and Rockets last season, in which he shot 44.6 percent from the floor.
And he now looks to be an important piece for the Suns for some time to come.
