Who doesn’t love a good alternate uniform? It is all the rage in sports today, but especially in the National Basketball Association, where retro looks get some modern touches or great uniforms of the past find ways to get just enough of an update to not look completely ridiculous.

This season, there may not be a nicer alternate uniform in the Association than the ones that the Philadelphia 76ers unveiled to honor the 50th anniversary of the 1967 NBA championship team.

Oh, but first the team announced that it would honor the team on six Saturday games called “Salute Saturday” with a different looking court to play on.

Perhaps the most unique part is that the court will also feature the signatures of all season ticket holders as a way of tying the past to the present according to the team (and a first in NBA history):

The campaign, “Spirit of the Champion: Celebrating 50 Since ’66-‘67”, includes the first tribute center court signed by Sixers Full Season Ticket Members, collectible tickets and ticket boxes for Season Ticket Members, the unveiling of sculptures honoring 1966-67 legends Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, Hal Greer and more. Sixers players will wear hardwood classics throwback jerseys inspired by the 1966-67 road uniforms during six “Salute Saturday” night tribute games presented by StubHub.

Oh, and to top off the special courts, the Sixers are also going to be using some 3D technology in the special opening video segments before each of the six games.

Not only are the season ticket holders getting extra benefits and attention, but so are the players from that team thanks to the statue announcement and all of the plans made to honor the players that are still with us from that team.

As for the tribute center court that will be put together for the “Salute Saturday” games, that will go to be part of the new 76ers training center in Camden, New Jersey.

There’s even a planned release of a wine to help honor the 1966-67 team, one that is the second in a three-part release from 76ers wine partners Chaddsford Winery for fans to enjoy starting in late October.

Few teams with as little current success are better at masking it and celebrating the past than the Sixers, that’s for sure.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this kind of celebration all season long? The Sixers organization has really thought of everything.
