We wrote on Wednesday how Steph Curry wouldn’t miss any games despite a shin injury that clearly affected him. Curry, who’s listed as probable for tonight’s matchup against the Portland Trailblazers, has a new weapon to fight potential discomfort – soccer style, plastic shin guards.

“I’ve got to bring out my Messi mindset tonight, so we’ll see,” Curry told Ethan Sherwood Strauss of ESPN.com referring to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

Curry has dealt with shin issues all season, as he suffered a contusion against the Kings in late December and missed a pair of games with the injury. The Warriors medical staff said there was a four-week recovery timetable for him, but the reigning MVP says he’ll keep playing and look for a solution in the meanwhile.

“We’ll keep trying out stuff ’til we find something that works,” Curry said, “and then once I obviously, hopefully get through this, I’ll be back to my normal attire.”

It remains to be seen how the guards will impact his game. Curry’s having another MVP season averaging almost 30 points per game, putting up a PER of 31.65. Under his leadership, the Warriors have won 33 of 35 games, outscoring opponents by almost 12 points per game.

The big question is will the injury stop him from being chef Curry, or will he become Sous chef Curry until he’s fully healthy? We’ll see tonight. Also for anyone who played soccer, do you remember how terrible shin guards smelled after the game?
