Stephen Curry has unsurprisingly offered high praise for all-time 3-point leader Ray Allen.

Curry spoke to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com, where he called the recently retired sharpshooter “the greatest shooter ever.”

“To me, he’s the greatest shooter ever because of his longevity,” Curry told ESPN of the future Hall of Famer’s career. “He did it year-to-year and he got up on his shot. That’s what made him different. He was a special player.”

Curry’s respect for Allen is rooted in his record chase.

The Golden State Warriors point guard is on pace to trounce Allen’s incredible 3-point record. Allen knocked down 2,973 triples in 1,300 career games during his career. Curry’s just under 500 games (499) into his career and has already knocked down 1,610 3-pointers. Curry’s already smashed a bunch of Allen’s records and unless he suffers a major injury, he’ll become the three-point record holder by the end of his career.

Curry openly admitted he’s striving to beat Allen’s record.

“He gives me something to shoot for,” Curry said to ESPN. “That’s a goal of mine.”

It’s awesome to see a current great chase another great’s record. Curry is arguably the greatest long-distance shooter of all-time, but he’s got work to do to solidify his name in the record books. Until that happens, Allen is the 3-point GOAT.
