The Golden State Warriors recently hired Mike Dunleavy Jr. as general manager, and he’s wasting little time putting his mark on the team.

According to ESPN’s NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Golden State Warriors are sending guard Jordan Poole in a package to the Washington Wizards in exchange for former NBA All-Pro point guard Chris Paul.

Wojnarowski clarified in a following tweet that the Warriors sent a 2030 protected first-round and a 2027 second-rounder to the Wizards as part of the package for Paul.

The NBA world was quick to react to the shocking trade:

Paul played collegiately with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He entered the NBA in 2005 when the then-New Orleans Hornets selected Paul with the fourth overall pick of the draft.

Paul made stops with the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Phoenix Suns before he got traded to the Wizards earlier this month.

Poole played collegiately with the Michigan Wolverines. The Golden State Warriors selected him with the 28th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Poole spent time with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G-League affiliate, until 2021.

Warriors forward Draymond Greene infamously knocked out Poole during a practice scrimmage last season, possibly foretelling his exit from the storied franchise.
