A district attorney in Monroe, Louisiana has decided not to prosecute Alabama football players Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones after the two players were arrested on drugs and weapons charges back in May.

Louisiana district attorney Jerry Jones said Monday that he will not prosecute Hootie Jones and Robinson due to insufficient evidence.

The dropped charges were serious ones. Robinson was facing a felony charge of illegal possession of stolen firearms and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, as well as a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics. Hootie Jones was facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance and illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics.

Jerry Jones came out and made it clear why he wasn’t charging the players, and gave a strange quote to support his stance.

“I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I’m doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning,” Jones said.

Following the dropped charges, Alabama will have little to no response. This might not be the last of this case, however. If new evidence does come up, the case can be re-opened.

If Robinson does not face any further punishment from the school or the law, he will have a chance to extend his streak of 29 consecutive games started for the Crimson Tide. Robinson has been a mainstay for Alabama throughout his career and is expected to be a high draft pick in 2017 if he decides to leave school early.
