First touchdown

The 2022 college football season began on Saturday with a few teams across the country participating in Week 0. And thanks to an early drive from the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, we now have our first touchdown of the college football season.

After driving the ball down the field on their first drive of their season-opening contest against Austin Peay, the Hilltoppers converted a deep 2nd-and-10 pass from the 17-yard line into the waiting arms of Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley.

The pretty pass and catch gave the Hilltoppers an early 6-0 lead, then Western Kenctucky quickly converted the extra point to take a quick 7-0 lead over Austin Peay

While the touchdown itself was relatively ordinary and is unlikely to make too many highlight reels, the first touchdown of the season is a special moment worth celebrating. And the college football world took to Twitter to celebrate accordingly.

While the early touchdown is certainly a good start, Western Kentucky closed as a massive 35-point favorite over Austin Peay. So if the Hilltoppers are hoping to cover the spread, they’ll need several more scores just like this.

But based on the result of their first drive, Western Kentucky is well on its way.
